I removed the fingerboard from this sweet little Gibson mandolin today. Another reminder of the beauty of hide glue. The joint was still strong after half a century, but it opened with ease before the slicing edge of my blade. 

Tomorrow, I’ll level the neck and body surface, reglue the fingerboard and move on to the next step.
